The predicted salary is between 12 - 15 £ per hour.

Total is 17.5hrs per week, currently part of a job share with working days being every other Monday, and every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Summary of Job: Provide accurate and efficient routine quality control analysis of samples submitted to the Central Laboratory in Arbroath according to Company Methods and Procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare samples ready for analysis and organise daily workload accordingly.
  • Perform routine quality control analysis accurately and efficiently according to company methods while adhering to current safety procedures.
  • Record raw data and final results concisely and neatly in appropriate laboratory documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment to a necessary operational standard and calibration status.

Health & Safety:

  • Prepare standard reagents and equipment necessary to perform routine QC analysis.
  • Ensure work place is clean and tidy in order that analysis can be performed safely and effectively.

General:

  • Ensure that laboratory reference samples are stored properly and labelled with correct information.
  • Prepare micromalting samples and operate micromalting facility.
  • Prepare and distribute standard control samples for the Company’s laboratory audit system as directed by the Group Chief Chemist.
  • Understand and operate the Company’s quality management system relating to the laboratory function.
  • Deputise for the laboratory team leader as required.
  • Assist in the training of new members of staff and/or students in routine analytical methods and procedures.
  • Input results to QCRS data handling computer and generate relevant routine reports.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL:

  • Qualifications: Educated to Highers level in Chemistry/Biology or other science-related subject.
  • Skills/Abilities: Be numerate and have a basic understanding of mathematics and/or chemistry. Be able to work as part of a team. Must have good inter-personal skills, be self-motivating, enthusiastic and flexible member of the laboratory team. Be able to demonstrate an aptitude for operating laboratory instrumentation which involves calibration, maintenance and essential problem solving skills. Able to participate in on-going training in new methods and quality control procedures.
  • Working Knowledge: A basic understanding of the malting process and customer requirements.
