The surgery is situated directly off Junction 26, M4 — an easy commute from both Cardiff and Bristol. To support flexible working, we are looking for an enthusiastic GP to provide 5 sessions and join our friendly and supportive primary care team. We are a motivated, well-organised training practice that prides itself on high quality patient-centred care while maintaining a good work-life balance.
Location: 107 Malpas Road, Newport, Gwent, NP20 5PJ
Responsibilities:
- Operate a system of total triage with a telephone list of calls and the facility for face-to-face appointments to provide flexibility in managing the day.
- Manage routine and emergency appointments (up to 16 patients per session).
- Share home visits equitably among clinicians.
- Action lab reports daily and share them with all doctors in surgery that day.
- Handle medicine management queries and med reviews where possible.
- Check and send referrals, ensuring written referrals go back to secretaries.
- Provide QAIF input during consultations as needed.
- Sign a fair share of prescriptions; we are using electronic prescribing, reducing signing time.
- Supervise medical students as part of a shared rota.
- Conduct GP registrar hot reviews where needed (blocked time).
- Complete a small amount of practice medical reports (roughly 3 hours per month).
- Attend practice team meetings and significant event meetings; closure 2–3 times per year for in-house training.
- Participate in clinical audit to improve practice performance and support CPD and appraisal requirements.
- Attend formal primary care meetings (e.g., prescribing/NCN) within contractual hours if required.
- Provide nurse supervision and teaching of minor illness.
