Malloy Aeronautics Limited specializes in the development of heavy lift unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) for both civilian and military uses. Located in Berkshire, our operations are notable for their focus on in-house design and manufacturing. This vertical integration means we control the production of most aircraft components on-site, enhancing our ability to innovate and maintain high standards across all stages of development.
As a Safety Engineer, you will be reporting to the Head of Engineering. This exciting role will place the right candidate at the forefront of unmanned air systems development in the UK. We seek a highly motivated engineer to oversee the development and implementation of safety processes for UAS systems. As a Safety Engineer, you will drive the integration of safety requirements into engineering designs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices. You will apply your expertise in safety engineering and risk management to assess hazards, develop safety cases, and maintain product integrity throughout the lifecycle. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a strong safety culture, providing guidance, training, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK.
What you’ll be doing (but not limited to):
- Working with the Engineering Authority and Engineering Delivery Teams to ensure that safety is held at the forefront of design activities across the business.
- Work with Project Engineering Managers to ensure safety requirements are incorporated into design work in alignment with the customers safety objectives.
- Monitor ongoing product performance to ensure that safety and product integrity is maintained through the product lifecycle and product service.
- Define, maintain and promote safety and integrity practices across the engineering and manufacturing function.
- Report back to senior engineering and business functions on the performance of safety processes using suitable KPIs.
- Promote training and education for safety and integrity across the engineering function.
- Perform independent safety assessments on engineering projects during design reviews.
- Supporting design documentation and developing the design safety statement.
Essential Skills and Experiences:
- Qualified to Degree level or equivalent in a relevant STEM discipline.
- Experience delivering safety management within diverse engineering teams.
- Knowledge of key safety regulation relating to UAS development.
- Experience engaging with project engineering teams ensuring all relevant safety considerations are captured.
- Experience promoting and developing a culture of continuous improvement for safety within a diverse engineering organisation.
- Experience in defining and maintaining Hazard and Risk registers for engineering projects.
- Experience in developing safety cases for complex applications for autonomous systems.
