Overview & Purpose of the Role
As a PLC Software Engineer, you will be at the forefront of the full software development lifecycle—driving innovation and ensuring the seamless integration of automation systems. From defining requirements and writing robust code to testing and operating cutting‑edge hardware, you\’ll take ownership of key projects that deliver results. Plus, you’ll mentor and guide fellow engineers, leading the way with your technical expertise to develop solutions that push the boundaries of automation technology.
Key Responsibilities
Design, Program, and Configure Automation Systems
- Lead the design, programming, and configuration of PLC systems to meet dynamic operational needs.
- Integrate PLCs with broader control systems, working closely with electrical and mechanical engineers.
Optimize and Troubleshoot Systems
- Analyze, debug, and test control logic to enhance performance, efficiency, and system reliability.
- Troubleshoot system malfunctions to ensure minimal downtime, identifying and implementing corrective actions.
Collaborate & Innovate
- Work with cross‑functional teams to integrate PLC systems with Telematics, HMI interfaces, and other control systems.
- Continuously optimize and innovate control logic to improve the overall system efficiency.
Create Detailed Documentation
- Develop comprehensive documentation including wiring diagrams, ladder logic, I/O configurations, and version control to support ongoing management and troubleshooting.
Adhere to Quality and Safety Standards
- Follow ISO 9001 Quality Management System guidelines, maintaining safety interlocks and system backups to prevent failures.
- Ensure that the company’s reputation is maintained by adhering to industry regulations and safety procedures.
Contribute to Team Success
- Support the team with technical direction and mentoring, ensuring success in every stage of the project lifecycle.
- Take ownership of other duties as required to meet business needs.
Role Requirements
Education & Experience
- HND or equivalent in electronic/electrical engineering (or relevant experience).
- 5+ years of experience in a design software role, working with complex automation systems.
Technical Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of IEC 61131‑3 and PLC programming standards.
- Proficient in Codesys and real‑time system debugging, control loop tuning, and signal processing.
Collaboration & Communication
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working both independently and in team settings.
Complex Problem Solving
- Ability to design and implement complex control architectures involving multiple PLCs, sensors, and actuators.
