Teaching Assistant in Northampton

We are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant at Malcolm Arnold Preparatory School, in Northampton. Working under the direction and within an agreed system of supervision from a qualified teacher, the role involves complementing the teachers’ delivery of the national curriculum and contributing to the development of other support staff, pupils, and school policies and strategies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Undertaking specified timetabled teaching duties as agreed with the Head teacher.
• Working collaboratively with teaching staff and assisting teachers in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources.
• Supervising whole classes occasionally during the short-term absence of teachers.
• Providing support for pupils, the teacher, and the school to raise standards of achievement for all pupils, including those with special educational needs (SEN) and English as an additional language (EAL).
• Encouraging pupils to become independent learners and supporting their welfare.
• Supporting the inclusion of pupils in all aspects of school life.

This is a permanent role working 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year.

Who we are looking for:

• Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and increase achievement of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
• Promote, support and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning.
• Use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures.
• Support class teachers with maintaining good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
• Organise and manage teaching space and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment.
• Observe pupil performance and pass observations on to the class teacher.
• Direct the work, where relevant, of other adults in supporting learning.
• Provide feedback at the point of teaching.
