We are looking for an excellent Literacy Mentor to join our team at Malcolm Arnold Academy. As the school's Literacy Mentor, you will support the learning and achievement of students with specific literacy needs in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • The learning and achievement of students with specific literacy needs.
  • Ensuring equality of opportunity for all and being accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct.
  • Delivering lessons and literacy interventions to groups or individual students.
  • Leading literacy intervention meetings as required.
  • Promoting development and learning (physical, emotional, educational, social).
  • Providing a first point of contact with students, families, external agencies, and universities.
  • Gathering information from colleagues and meeting families and staff as appropriate.
  • Preparing reports and being responsible for marking and assessment of students' work.
  • Being creative in the planning and preparation of activities for literacy interventions.
  • Assisting with the delivery of local and national initiatives.
  • Having familiarity with all relevant statements of special educational needs.
  • Fostering growth, self-esteem, and independence.
  • Observing and recording development of students.
  • Having a clear understanding of the needs of the pupils you tutor, including those with special educational needs, EAL, SEND, and being able to use teaching approaches to effectively support them.
