Overview
The Maxwell Underground Mine, owned by Malabar Resources Ltd, has commenced operations at their Hunter Valley site, with planned production of up to 8 million tonnes per annum. With approvals in place out to 2046, the mine targets high quality coal with the majority being metallurgical coal. Malabar Resources is an independent Australian-based resources company located in the Upper Hunter Valley, in New South Wales.
About the Role
Due to our ongoing growth, we are now seeking an enthusiastic Mining Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Production Superintendent, you will assist our Whynot Bord and Pillar Operation by providing engineering expertise to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the mine. The incumbent will also contribute to the mine design, planning, scheduling, and securing operational approvals to maintain uninterrupted mining activities.
As the successful candidate, indicative tasks and responsibilities may include:
- Developing initial productivity assumptions based on historical performance and data base considerations
- Utilising production modelling tools to schedule mine outputs (tonnes, metres etc) for the following 12-month period
- Contributing to production schedule to be optimised based on maximum and minimum floats
- Assisting to develop panel planning standard prior to the commencement of each
- Undertaking mine optional assessments (covering the range of possible operating cases) in consultation with the Mine Manager – Whynot, Production Manager and Maintenance Superintendent
- Building and developing relationships with key stakeholders to support the operational objectives of the mine
Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering (or related) (Essential)
- Experience in a productive underground coal mine
- Willingness to learn how to use various technologies employed in the profession
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management
- Passionate about continuous improvement and technological advancement in mining
- Demonstrated commitment to safety
- Dedicated to grow and develop skills and attributes required for a Mining Engineer
- The ability to pass an industry medical assessment, prior to commencement, is required
