The opportunity

MAKZ builds consultant-authored evaluation data for frontier medical AI — the hard, ambiguous, multi-morbid clinical cases that reveal where the world's most advanced models still fail under real clinical uncertainty, graded criterion-by-criterion against expert rubrics. The frontier labs have saturated the easy medical benchmarks; the unsolved problem is reasoning and safety in the specialist tail, and that's the problem we exist to measure.

We're looking for a Founding Medical Lead to help build this from the ground floor — someone who can sit credibly in a room with both a senior clinician and a frontier-lab researcher, and translate fluently between them. This is a rare chance to shape a company, a methodology, and a category at the moment it's forming.

What you'll do

  • Set the clinical and methodological standard for how MAKZ builds and grades evaluation data — owning rubric design, quality, and the bar for what 'expert-grade' means.
  • Lead and grow our bench of consultant-level clinicians: recruiting, calibrating, and managing the medical experts who author and reconcile cases.
  • Partner directly with the technical and research contacts at frontier labs and clinical-AI companies — holding the clinical and the evaluation-methodology conversation at a level they respect.
  • Shape the product and the pitch: turning deep clinical and eval insight into how MAKZ is positioned, sold, and trusted.
  • Act as a founding voice in the company's direction, not just its clinical work.

Who you are

  • A clinician with genuine clinical credibility.
  • Deeply engaged with medical AI: ideally hands-on experience in post-training, evaluation, or clinical-reasoning dataset work, whether at a frontier lab, a clinical-AI company, or a specialist data/eval provider.
  • Direct frontier-lab experience is highly prized; demonstrable depth in medical AI evaluation matters most.
  • Fluent across the clinical–technical divide: you can discuss rubric design, RLHF/eval methodology, and model failure modes with researchers, and clinical reasoning with consultants, without losing either audience.
  • Well-connected, or able to build connections quickly, within the medical-AI and frontier-lab ecosystem.
  • Energised by early-stage ambiguity — someone who wants to build the function, not inherit it.

Why this role

  • A genuine founding seat: real ownership of a category at the moment it's being defined.
  • Work at the actual frontier of medical AI — the problems the leading labs are still trying to solve.
  • A mission that matters: better, safer AI in medicine, measured to a standard the field doesn't yet have.
  • Competitive package including salary and meaningful equity as a founding team member.
  • Fully remote, with the autonomy to shape how the role and the company grow.

To apply: send your CV and you will be contacted within 48 hours if shortlisted.
