Position Overview
As an Area Sales Manager at Makita, you will be the driving force behind sales growth across your designated region. You’ll own your territory – building and nurturing relationships with end users, stockists, and distributors while consistently delivering against volume and value targets.
This is a field‑based role that puts you at the heart of Makita’s commercial operation. You’ll represent one of the world’s most respected power tool brands, combining product expertise with a consultative sales approach to grow market share and strengthen customer loyalty.
What You Will Be Doing
- Sell the full range of Makita products across your designated territory, targeting both existing accounts and new business opportunities with users, stockists, and distributors.
- Plan and execute your journey cycle proactively – submitting weekly itineraries two weeks in advance and completing call reports on a live basis.
- Report weekly to your Regional Sales Manager on sales and training activities, and monthly on market trends, competitor activities, and distributor performance.
- Ensure smooth information flow between yourself, your Regional Sales Manager, and colleagues to maintain operational alignment.
- Identify training needs among distributor and stockist staff and flag these to your Regional Sales Manager.
- Actively develop distributor and end user capability – supporting staff effectiveness and ensuring dealer and contractor staff participate in factory service centre training.
- Liaise with technical and other internal departments to develop business opportunities and resolve customer issues promptly.
- Maintain a comprehensive demonstration kit and stay fully up to date on all Makita products, applications, and the competitive landscape.
- Promote Makita’s image through day‑to‑day activity and support trade events and exhibitions within your territory.
- Manage expenses responsibly, operating within agreed limits and in line with company policy at all times.
What We Are Looking For
- Sales Track Record: Proven experience in a field or territory sales role, ideally within power tools, construction, or industrial products. Comfortable working to volume and value targets.
- Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of power tools and their applications, or the ability to develop this quickly. A passion for demonstrating and explaining technical products is essential.
- Relationship Builder: Skilled at developing lasting partnerships across a diverse customer base – from end users to national distributors – and maintaining harmonious working relationships at all levels.
- Self‑Organised: Highly disciplined with journey planning, reporting, and time management. Able to prioritise customer enquiries, training needs, and special projects without close supervision.
- Communication Skills: Clear and confident communicator – both written and verbal. Capable of reporting accurately upwards and collaborating effectively with internal teams.
- Commercially Minded: Understands market dynamics, monitors competitor activity, and translates insights into action. Motivated by growth and committed to achieving territory targets.
- Training & Development Focus: Able to identify capability gaps in partner staff and support structured training programmes. Committed to your own continuous professional development.
- Brand Ambassador: Presents a professional image in all interactions and actively promotes Makita’s values and reputation at trade events, exhibitions, and in daily field activity.
