Makers’ mission is to build a better future. We transform lives and organisations through pioneering training which keeps pace with global tech shifts.
Tech and AI are reshaping jobs, the economy and society. Ensuring this transition is effective, equitable and inclusive will be a driver of human wellbeing into the next century. We believe talent is everywhere and the future belongs to those who can adapt and learn.
We are here to help people do this - across tech and in every job being remade now by AI. As a committed B-Corp with the best training results in the country, we believe we uniquely bring the heart and the hard- won expertise to do this.
Why this role exists
Makers is growing and evolving its portfolio of training products, in response to the rapidly changing tech landscape driven by AI.
Every time we either launch or update a new product, we need a leader who will own that process from start to finish. They will run a strong, repeatable process managing a team of curriculum writers.
This process will deliver a curriculum that creates exceptional outcomes for learners, is compliant with apprenticeship KSBs, and is highly attuned to all learner feedback. The process will be compliant, documented, AI enabled and easy for the rest of the team to work with. Curriculum will be delivered exactly on time, to a high standard, to allow our coaches to prepare to deliver and give our clients confidence we will always deliver as planned.
As Head of Curriculum Product, you will own the strategy, roadmap and operating rhythm for Makers core curriculum catalogue. You will create the conditions for Curriculum Leads to deliver high-quality releases on time, then use learner, coach and delivery insight to keep improving them.
Where this role starts and stops: You will run the curriculum development process from the outset, using agreed protocols and good practice so the work is structured, documented and ready to progress. Head of Curriculum Innovation owns discovery, bespoke design, the technical content, the first live delivery and improvements during the pilot. You will work alongside your Innovation counterpart throughout development, then take full ownership when the curriculum is ready to become part of the core portfolio.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Set the roadmap and delivery rhythm
- Translate portfolio and commercial priorities into an achievable curriculum roadmap across the core catalogue.
- Prioritise the curriculum backlog and make trade-offs visible when demand, capacity, quality and compliance requirements compete.
- Run a clear release and review cadence, giving Curriculum Leads well-defined outcomes, deadlines and dependencies.
- Track progress and unblock delivery so curriculum work moves at pace without compromising learner experience or regulatory standards.
Lead and develop the curriculum team
- Line manages the Curriculum Leads responsible for the core catalogue, setting clear objectives, accountabilities and development priorities aligned with the curriculum roadmap.
- Hold regular 1:1s and performance conversations, giving people the support, constructive challenge and feedback they need to grow.
- Plan team capacity and allocate work across curriculum products, balancing delivery commitments with sustainable workloads and individual development.
- Build the team’s product, pedagogical and technical capability through coaching, peer learning and relevant CPD
Run the curriculum development process
- Own the process used to develop new and existing curriculum, including bespoke products shaped by the Head of Curriculum Innovation.
- Set clear stages, expectations and standards so development is well planned, documented and quality assured throughout.
- Work alongside the Head of Curriculum Innovation while they bring client insight, bespoke design and technical content, providing the structure and good practice needed to move the work forward.
- Take full ownership when the curriculum is ready to enter the core portfolio, including standardisation, compliance, release readiness and ongoing improvement.
Turn curriculum into scalable products
- Set and maintain the standards that every curriculum release must meet before it enters business as usual delivery.
- Ensure modules are fully documented through consistent coach guides, learning materials, labs, assessments and rubrics.
- Quality assure the curriculum and its supporting assets so different coaches can deliver the intended experience reliably.
- Keep the curriculum creation and iteration process clear, usable and documented so the team can work consistently as the portfolio grows.
Protect quality and compliance
- Oversee qualification framework and KSB mapping for apprenticeships and other government-funded programmes.
- Ensure curriculum evidence is ready to meet relevant Ofsted, awarding body and certification requirements.
Use evidence to improve the product
- Bring together learner and employer NPS, completion and achievement data, coach retrospectives and post-cohort insight.
- Separate one-off delivery issues from product problems, then turn the right evidence into prioritised improvements.
- Define the measures for each curriculum release and review whether changes have improved learner and customer outcomes.
Prepare delivery teams for every release
- Coordinate training, upskilling and handoffs for coaches before a new or updated module goes live.
- Make sure delivery teams understand what has changed, why it matters and what good delivery looks like.
- Act on early delivery feedback quickly, while protecting the integrity of the agreed curriculum product.
What we are looking for
- A background in product management, EdTech product operations or learning design, with experience owning roadmaps and release cycles.
- Experience in regulated vocational education, apprenticeships or government-funded skills provision, including practical knowledge of Ofsted expectations and IfATE standards.
- A strong track record of managing deadlines, dependencies and throughput across teams of curriculum specialists, learning designers, technical writers or subject matter experts.
- Experience standardising learning products and the full set of materials needed for consistent delivery, including guides, assessments, rubrics, labs and slide decks.
- Hands-on experience of qualification framework and KSB mapping, curriculum quality assurance and evidence for accreditation or certification.
- Confidence using learner, customer and delivery data to identify product issues, prioritise work and evaluate impact.
- You are comfortable with technical subject matter and curious about how technology and industry needs are changing, even if you are not the deepest technical expert in the room.
