We are seeking an experienced Safety & Environmental Engineer (OME / Ammunition) to provide specialist safety and environmental assurance across ammunition procurement and in-service activities. Working within Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), this role supports the delivery of general munitions to the UK Armed Forces, ensuring compliance with regulatory and assurance requirements throughout the full CADMID lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Provide Safety & Environmental Engineer (OME / Ammunition) expertise to deliver specialist safety and environmental assurance across ammunition procurement and in-service activities.
- Support the delivery of general munitions to the UK Armed Forces within Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), ensuring compliance with regulatory and assurance requirements throughout the full CADMID lifecycle.
- Work primarily in a remote capacity with occasional site visits, and apply strong expertise in safety case development, hazard management, and engagement with regulatory stakeholders within a complex defence environment.
Requirements
- Provide Mode 1 safety and environmental support to ammunition procurement and in-service activities across the full CADMID lifecycle.
- Develop and author Safety & Environmental Cases to support Outline Business Case (OBC) and Full Business Case (FBC) approvals.
- Review, update, and maintain in-service Safety Cases, including routine periodic reviews and event-driven changes.
- Produce project-specific Safety & Environmental Management Plans (SEMPs) aligned to regulatory and programme requirements.
- Conduct hazard identification activities, including the creation, maintenance, and refinement of Hazard Logs as projects mature.
- Undertake accident risk analysis and classification to support robust and defensible safety arguments.
- Support the development of certification plans and liaise with relevant Regulatory Authorities.
- Prepare and support Project Safety and Environmental Panels (PSEP), including planning, documentation, and meeting participation.
- Support OME Safety Review Panels (OSRP) to achieve OME Assurance Statements (OAS).
- Produce and maintain key safety documentation, including Safety and Environmental Case Reports (SECRs) and supporting evidence.
- Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and assurance for ammunition systems throughout their lifecycle.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, project managers, commercial, and finance stakeholders.
