Overview
This is a development post for a trainee B5 fire safety advisor progressing to a B6 upon successful completion of a structured development programme. To work on behalf of the Trust to deliver an environment that is safe with a minimum fire risk so that the highest standards of clinical care can be made available to patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive, inclusive and professional fire management service for the Trust.
- Provide expert advice on all fire related matters.
- Carry out inspections and risk assessments on all Trust properties.
- Train staff of all disciplines and levels on fire related matters (Core training).
- Adopt a Lean based improvement methodology and apply the Improving Together approach in practice.
- Advise management (at all levels) of initial and continuing responsibilities in respect of premises requiring risk assessments.
- Manage and supervise fire fighting equipment, fire safety signs and fire notices.
- Maintain accurate records of fires and fire signals in a National database for Healthcare premises.
- Compile comprehensive end of year statistics for Annual Trust Reports.
- Ensure fire exits, fire escapes and associated exit routes are regularly maintained and free of obstruction.
- Ensure fire alarms and first aid fire fighting equipment are regularly maintained and tested.
- Respond to all complaints relating to fire safety matters.
- Plan and deliver fire awareness presentations to all staff.
- Devise and deliver a programme of fire safety training for all Trust staff and contractors.
- Create databases and spreadsheets for storage of specialist information.
Qualifications
Qualifications and experience required for this role include:
- Experience in fire safety, risk assessment and training.
- Knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and NHS fire prevention framework.
- Strong communication skills and ability to deliver training to staff of all levels.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and compile statistics.
- Experience with Lean improvement methodology is an asset.
