Job Summary
University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) are seeking a Sterile Services Technician to work primarily at the Royal site (Royal Stoke, Stoke-on-Trent) with occasional coverage at the County site. This is a fully flexible role; shift patterns may change on short notice.
Shift Patterns
- Core shifts: 06:00 – 14:00 (Days) and 14:00 – 22:00 (Twilight) Monday through Sunday.
- Night shifts: 22:00 – 06:00 (Nights) with a 1:7 rotation.
- Weekend coverage: Saturday or Sunday with a day off during the week (Mon-Fri). Saturday shift (8:00 – 20:00) and Sunday shift (8:00 – 23:30) are incorporated into normal hours.
- On-call and bank holiday duties as required.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit by:
- Receiving, cleaning, disinfecting, packaging, sterilising and delivering surgical instruments, endoscopes and other equipment to operating theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.
- Reading small lettering on instruments and following written instructions accurately.
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety and quality throughout the sterilisation process.
- Assisting with inventory, record keeping and the daily use of a computer.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential
- Good standard of GCSE education with literacy and numeracy skills.
- Experience working in a production environment.
- Ability to work within a team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a decontamination or sterilisation role.
- Knowledge of infection control procedures.
Basic computer skills and the ability to read small lettering are required. No prior experience in sterile services is necessary; training will be provided.
