Senior Therapy Technical Instructor role at University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM), within the Neurology and Neurosurgery team at Royal Stoke University Hospital. The role involves working closely with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and a multidisciplinary team to ensure timely interventions and safe supported discharge of patients, including those with neurological, chronic respiratory, multi-pathology and cognitively impaired conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Work independently and alongside the qualified team in assessing transfers, functional tasks and managing cognitive patients.
- Provide Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy interventions under the direction of a qualified staff.
- Assist in assessing and therapeutic interventions with patients with cognitive difficulties, with support from qualified OT when needed.
- Escalate issues with patients if not progressing appropriately to qualified therapists as required.
- Participate in supervising and mentoring rotational therapy technicians.
- Take part in the training of rotational members of staff as part of the in‑service training programme.
Education & Qualifications – Essential:
- GCSE English Grade C/4 and above or equivalent evidence of good literacy.
- GCSE Maths Grade C/4 and above or equivalent evidence of good numeracy.
- Meets competency framework for Technical Instructor Band 3 specific to work area.
Education & Qualifications – Desirable:
- GCSE Science Grade C/4 and above
- A Level or NVQ Qualification
Experience – Essential:
- High level of background working in Therapies as a Therapies Technical Instructor.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Complex discharge planning.
Experience – Desirable:
- Acute hospital experience.
Skills, Ability & Knowledge – Essential:
- Ability to assess patients with cognitive difficulties using standardised assessments and pathways.
