An exciting opportunity is now available at the University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM) for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Senior Occupational Therapist with a keen interest in our frail older adult population. The post offers the opportunity to work in one of the busiest major trauma hospitals in the UK within an exciting and supportive university hospital environment. We assess and treat a large cohort of older adults with diverse and often complex presentations across several older adult medical wards.

The therapy team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and dual trained Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Technical Instructors. The therapy team work as part of a wider, dedicated multidisciplinary team which includes nurses, doctors, an integrated discharge hub and diversional therapists. The post holder will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and have an enhanced level of understanding of rapid assessment, intervention, decision making, discharge planning and services available to support this.

Main duties of the job: The older adult therapy team at the UHNM is innovative and enthusiastic with strong leadership and a commitment to MDT working. The post holder will be required to work weekends and bank holidays and there will also be an expectation to cross cover the wider Occupational Therapy services at UHNM on occasions. We are keen to meet dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated Occupational Therapists interested in joining our supportive, well established team committed to providing a high standard of clinical care.

About Us: The UHNM NHS Trust covers Royal Stoke Hospital in Stoke on Trent and County Hospital in Stafford. Royal Stoke is a large acute teaching hospital, with a turnover of £360 million. Located in Stoke on Trent and Stafford, UHNM is close to the M6, within commuting distance of culturally diverse major conurbations, such as Manchester and Birmingham and surrounded by rural pleasures, including the Peak District National Park. It is a leading teaching hospital in partnership with Keele University and has a patient-centred clinical research facility providing state-of-the-art facilities.

Essential – Education & Qualifications: Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy, Registered with HCPC.

Desirable – Education & Qualifications: CPD relevant to frailty and working with frail patients.

Essential – Experience: Minimum of 18 months post-graduate experience as an Occupational Therapist, Experience gained in an acute setting.

Desirable – Experience: NHS experience, 2-4 years post graduate experience.

Essential – Skills, Ability and Knowledge: Experience of audits/projects, Experience with discharge processes.

Desirable – Skills, Ability and Knowledge: Clinical Educator, Experience with cognitive assessments.
