We are advertising for an Occupational Therapist within our Acute Stroke Therapy Services. The Acute Stroke Therapy Service offers specialist stroke rehabilitation on the hyper-acute and acute stroke unit as well as an enhanced early supported discharge service to provide well supported, timely discharges from the acute hospital setting, delivering care closer to home and addressing the physical, psychological and social wellbeing needs of the population.

Main duties of the job:

  • We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward thinking Occupational therapist who is interested in developing their specialised rehabilitation skills both within the acute setting and within the outreach service providing Early Supported Discharge.
  • You will be an integral part of our innovative and friendly team working with patients following specialised care; the integrated therapy team covers a 7 day working week from 07:30 until 20:00.
  • You will require excellent interpersonal skills to enable you to work closely with a range of staff from various professional backgrounds.
  • You will provide early rehabilitation for specialised patients, setting goals & treatment plans to be followed by the interdisciplinary team.
  • You will also be promoting a seamless transition from the acute hospital to the home environment whilst continuing to work towards patients rehabilitation goals in their own home or normal place of residence.
  • The ability to develop & sustain good working relationships with colleagues & peers is essential.
  • You must demonstrate an empathetic approach, be responsive to patients’ needs, and be flexible in your approach to work, able to manage your own workload & work unsupervised.
  • Training and competencies will be addressed through our experienced and supportive therapy team.

Person Specification:

  • Essential: Degree/ Diploma in Occupational Therapy, Evidence of CPD, Registered with HCPC
  • Desirable: Stroke specific trainings

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and build effective working relationships
  • Demonstrate effective clinical skills
  • Knowledge of interdisciplinary working
  • UK issued driving license
  • Access to a vehicle for work purposes
  • Desirable: Proficient use of MS Office solutions & EPR systems, Ability to reflect on own skills and areas for development, Evidenced based knowledge and understanding of Therapy standards and treatment approaches

Experience:

  • Essential: Experience working within the NHS as a student or qualified therapist; Experience gained in the acute setting as a student or qualified therapist
  • Desirable: Experience of working within Neurosciences, Experience of working within Trauma & Orthopaedic, Experience gained in the community setting as a student or qualified therapist
