Consultant Gynae‑Oncologist – University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year pa. Contract: Permanent, Full‑time, 9.95 PAs per week; 1:12 on‑call rota. Location: Maternity Centre, Newcastle Road, Stoke‑on‑Trent, ST4 6QG.

Job Summary

The post holder will provide the full range of surgical Gynaecological Oncology cover including diagnostics and major surgical procedures such as robotic surgery on a cancer pathway, working within multidisciplinary team across Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital sites. The role involves patient continuity, committee participation, and strategic planning for both sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full range of surgical Gynaecological Oncology cover including diagnostics and major surgical procedures such as robotic surgery on a cancer pathway.
  • Work within a team‑based structure to support care across both hospital sites.
  • Participate in immediate management functions and strategic planning of the Division and Trusts on both sites.
  • Serve on relevant divisional, trust and regional committees.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • CCT or equivalent
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry via CCT within 6 months of the date of the AAC
  • BSCCP Accreditation
  • Completed RCOG Sub‑speciality training in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent

Experience & Training

  • Proficiency in all aspects of laparoscopic surgery relevant to gynaecological oncology, including performing laparoscopic Wertheim’s operation.
  • Experience in radical and supra‑radical surgery for ovarian cancer, including upper abdominal peritoneal stripping.
  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC.
  • Experience in sentinel node sampling in vulval and endometrial cancer.
  • Robotic proctor/Trainer with certification.
  • Proficiency in performing robotic procedures, including simple and radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy.

  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and within a team.
  • Attendance at MDT meetings.
  • Evidence of team leadership.

Academic Achievements, Research, Publications

  • Experience in research including recruitment to clinical trials.
  • Evidence of continuing research.

Personal Attributes and Circumstances

  • Ability to work under pressure and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work flexibly.
  • Availability and means to meet travel requirements of the post.
