Quality is at the heart of everything we produce. We are looking for a Quality Controller to join a busy food manufacturing operation and play an important role in ensuring products consistently meet the required standards for food safety, quality and compliance. This is a hands-on role working closely with the Production and Technical teams. You will be responsible for carrying out checks and testing throughout the manufacturing process, identifying any issues or deviations and making sure the appropriate action is taken.
It's an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build or develop their career within Food Quality, Technical or Food Manufacturing.
The Role
As a Quality Controller, you will be involved throughout the production process, from checking incoming raw materials through to monitoring production and verifying finished products. You will carry out routine quality and food safety checks, ensuring products meet customer, regulatory and internal standards. Where you identify an issue, you'll work with the relevant teams to investigate the problem and ensure it is addressed appropriately. Accuracy and attention to detail are important, as you'll be responsible for recording test results, inspections and any deviations accurately. You'll also work alongside the wider Quality Assurance and Technical teams, supporting audits, inspections and continuous improvement activity across the site.
What You'll Be Doing
- Your responsibilities will include testing and checking raw materials to ensure they meet the required safety, quality and specification standards.
- You’ll monitor production processes, carry out routine inspections and identify any deviations from agreed procedures or specifications.
- You’ll also verify finished products against the required physical, chemical and microbiological criteria, ensuring that products are safe, compliant and fit for release.
- Accurate record keeping is an important part of the position, so you’ll maintain clear and reliable records of testing, inspections and results.
- You’ll work closely with Production and Technical colleagues to resolve quality issues and will contribute to audits, inspections and wider continuous improvement initiatives.
- Most importantly, you’ll help promote a strong food safety and quality culture across the site.
What We're Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is reliable, flexible and detail-focused, with an interest in food quality and manufacturing. Previous experience within food manufacturing, quality control, technical or laboratory environments would be beneficial, although the right attitude and willingness to learn are equally important. You’ll need to be comfortable working in a busy production environment, following procedures accurately and raising issues when standards aren’t being met. Good communication skills are important, as you’ll be working closely with Production and Quality colleagues throughout the day.
The Shift Pattern
Flexibility is essential for this position. You will work 5 days out of 7, with the shift pattern rotating weekly between:
- Week 1: 6:00am – 2:00pm
- Week 2: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
Weekend working is part of the role, with Sundays always included and Saturdays worked when required. For example, your working week could be Sunday–Thursday one week and Wednesday–Sunday another. The key requirement is that you are comfortable working a rotating shift pattern and can be flexible around the operational requirements of the site.
What’s On Offer
- £13.75 per hour starting rate
- Pay increases linked to length of service
- Weekly rotating shifts between 6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm
- 5 days working out of 7
- Regular weekend working
- Opportunity to gain valuable experience within a food manufacturing Quality function
- The chance to develop your knowledge of food safety, quality systems and manufacturing processes
Ready to Take the Next Step? If you’re looking for an opportunity to develop your career in Food Quality and enjoy a hands-on role within a busy manufacturing environment, we’d love to hear from you.
