The site produces a wide range of high-volume frozen food products and operates a complex mix of production, packaging and industrial refrigeration systems. Engineering reliability is critical to maintaining continuous production, strict food safety standards, and temperature-controlled storage integrity.

This is a practical, fast-paced engineering role covering both production machinery and large-scale refrigeration systems, ideal for someone who enjoys varied technical work across mechanical, electrical and facilities maintenance.

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday | 08:00 - 17:00. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to support production demands.

Salary & Benefits: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum (depending on experience). In addition: 28 days holiday (including bank holidays), company pension scheme, overtime available, stable Monday-Friday working pattern, training and development opportunities, supportive engineering environment, free onsite parking.

The Environment: This is a high-volume frozen food manufacturing and cold storage environment, where engineering performance directly impacts production output and product safety.

You will be working across:

  • Automated production and packing lines
  • Industrial refrigeration and freezing systems
  • Temperature-controlled storage and distribution areas
  • Factory utilities and site infrastructure

This is a varied role covering both production breakdowns and critical refrigeration systems.

Key Equipment & Systems: You will maintain and support a wide range of equipment, including:

  • Production Equipment: Dumpling production lines, meat processing and slicing machinery, packaging machines and sealers, conveyors and transfer systems, weighing systems, metal detection systems, vacuum and sealing equipment, mixers, pumps and motors.
  • Refrigeration & Cold Storage Systems: Spiral freezers, tunnel freezers, blast freezers, cold rooms and freezer storage systems, refrigeration compressors, chillers, evaporators and condensers, control and monitoring systems.
  • Site & Utilities: Air compressors, water systems, electrical distribution panels, factory lighting, drainage systems, general building services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production and refrigeration equipment.
  • Respond rapidly to breakdowns and restore equipment to full operation.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using structured fault-finding techniques.
  • Maintain and repair industrial refrigeration and freezing systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning and modification of new equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, HACCP and BRCGS standards.
  • Carry out general site and facilities maintenance as required.
  • Work closely with production teams to minimise disruption and maintain output.
  • Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat failures.

About You: This role suits an engineer who is confident working in a fast-moving production environment and enjoys varied technical challenges across both mechanical and electrical systems. You will ideally have:

  • Minimum 5 years' maintenance engineering experience.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Hands-on approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Desirable Experience:

  • Food manufacturing experience.
  • Refrigeration / cold storage systems experience.
  • F-Gas qualification.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • PLC fault-finding experience.
  • Experience with VFDs / inverters.
  • Welding or fabrication skills.

Why This Role: This is an opportunity to join a busy, modern food production environment where engineering plays a critical role in keeping both production and temperature-controlled systems operating reliably. You'll be working on a wide mix of production machinery and industrial refrigeration systems, making this a varied and technically engaging role with genuine responsibility and day-to-day impact.

If you're a practical Maintenance Engineer who enjoys solving problems and keeping essential systems running, this is a strong long-term opportunity.
