A Principal Electronics Engineer with experience in systems design, test & calibration is sought by a growing engineering company in South Tyneside.

You will be responsible for:

  1. The diagnosis and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and electromechanical systems, including down to PCB component level.
  2. Coaching and mentoring of other team members.
  3. Safe, correct, and efficient preventive and routine maintenance of equipment and machinery.
  4. The calibration of electronic equipment.
  5. Correctly disassembling, inspecting, repairing, cleaning, replacing, and re-assembling equipment and systems.
  6. Carrying out Electromechanical system testing and commissioning.
  7. Designing electrical/electronic systems for upgrades, overcoming component obsolescence, and integrating with third-party equipment and systems.
  8. Liaising with customers about works and suggested remedial actions.

We’re looking for an experienced, practical, hands-on Electrical and Electronic Engineer who enjoys diagnosing and fault finding down to component level (PCBs), then using their skills and experience to repair or recommend the next steps. The role will involve a level of mentoring and coaching to other team members. Some travel and site visits are expected. You will be able to work to tight deadlines and have good time management awareness along with a HND/degree qualification. A good attitude and attention to detail are essential. Ongoing training, certification, and support are assured.

You will also need the following skills:

  • Ability to read, interpret, and act on electrical/electronic diagrams and schematics.
  • Ability to interrogate and interpret electronic systems with no drawings or documents (old systems, customer existing systems).
  • Low voltage circuitry knowledge – PCB and wired systems.
  • Control system logic knowledge.
  • Digital and analogue electronic fundamentals.

Full UK driving licence and clear DBS (or ability to pass a DBS check) is required.

This role would ideally suit an experienced electronics technician who enjoys travelling and variety in their work, as each day provides its own challenges.
