Major Recruitment are recruiting for Polishing Machine Operative.
Location: Oldbury (B69)
Contract: Temp to Perm
Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts (Monday to Friday)
- Mornings: 6:00am - 2:00pm
- Afternoons: 2:00pm - 10:00pm
- Nights: 10:00pm - 6:00am
Note: You must be able to work all three rotating shifts. No exceptions.
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience.
The Reality of the Role
This isn’t a "sit-down" job. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of polishing and grinding machinery to achieve specific surface finishes on stainless steel tubes. You’ll be handling long, heavy products in a fast-paced steel industry environment.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing
- Machine Operation: Setting, programming, and monitoring CNC-controlled polishing and grinding equipment.
- Material Handling: Loading and unloading steel tubes safely, utilizing overhead cranes and following manual handling guidelines.
- Quality Control: Inspecting finished tubes for surface quality, identifying defects, and maintaining product traceability.
- Maintenance: Performing basic routine maintenance, cleaning equipment, and changing consumables like polishing belts and wheels.
- Reporting: Using basic computer literacy to record production output, scrap, and rework.
What We Need From You
- Experience: Previous work in a steel environment is essential.
- Experience with polishing/grinding machinery is essential and FLT/Overhead Crane usage is a major advantage.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to adjust machine settings for dimensional requirements and perform "first-off" quality checks.
- Qualifications: An NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Engineering or Manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Mindset: You need to be a problem-solver who can work with minimal supervision while staying flexible enough to support the team during downtime.
