Major Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Maintenance / Multi-Trade Operative (Temporary Contract).
Location: Freemen's School, Ashtead, KT21
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm
Contract: Temporary - Few Months (Long-Term Sick Cover)
Pay Rate: Β£16.07 per hour (PAYE - Outside London, Band B)
Role Overview
We are seeking a reliable and practical Maintenance / Multi-Trade Operative to support the facilities team at a well-established independent school in Ashtead. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with strong general maintenance experience who can confidently carry out a range of basic repairs and upkeep tasks across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- General building maintenance and minor repairs
- Fixing doors, windows and locks
- Replacing taps, light fittings and basic plumbing items
- Repairing or reporting non-working radiators and heating issues
- Basic painting, patch repairs and touch-ups
- Setting up and clearing areas for school events
- Manual handling and moving furniture/equipment
- Responding promptly to maintenance requests and health & safety issues
- Supporting preventative maintenance checks across the premises
Requirements
- Proven experience in general maintenance or multi-trade work
- Practical skills in basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical tasks
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual work
- Awareness of health & safety practices
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable
- Previous experience working in schools or large facilities
- Driving licence
- Basic trade qualifications (not essential but advantageous)
