A leading organisation in the UK’s transport and infrastructure sector, operating a network of strategic assets essential to the nation’s trade and supply chains, is seeking an Interim Senior Legal Counsel for a 12-month assignment. This hire is driven by a recent departure and an upcoming maternity leave. The organisation needs a senior lawyer to provide robust, commercially focused legal advice and manage risk across a broad range of matters.

The Role

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts (including warehousing, leasing, supplier & procurement, infrastructure and construction, energy supply agreements).
  • Advise on legislation impacting the business, including changes in UK and EU law.
  • Provide legal input on health & safety, environment, employment (including TUPE), marine, and commercial discussions (including potential M&A).
  • Manage disputes and oversee external counsel, ensuring cost control and quality advice.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders and act as a trusted advisor.
  • Support legal training initiatives and maintain legal precedents.
  • Mentor junior team members and deputise for General Counsel when required.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 7+ years PQE.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Commercial approach with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Previous experience in infrastructure, transport, or logistics sectors advantageous.
  • Leadership skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Location: Hybrid (3 days in office)
  • Start Date: ASAP
