A Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is sought to work on complex Engineering projects in Northumberland. Working as part of an agile team, you will deliver challenging engineering projects across our three core services of engineering, consultancy equipment design and build, and testing services. You will also participate in the development of best practice and engineering capability, support the development of engineers within the team, and give input to the company's technical direction.
Duties will include:
- Completion of engineering consultancy studies, generation of reports
- Collation of requirements, management of project stakeholders
- Concept development and design of mechanical equipment and mechanical focused systems with electrical and hydraulic aspects
- Detailed engineering leading to the generation of equipment drawings and specifications
- Oversight of equipment manufacture in the supply chain, focusing on technical compliance
- Development and delivery of bespoke test programmes for technology development or validation
- Delivery of assembly and testing activities
- Potential to lead installation and commissioning of equipment on clients' sites
Your Skills:
The ideal candidate will have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering and experience of using 3D CAD Design and FEA software tools. You will need experience in high risk industries such as oil & gas, offshore wind, process plant, nuclear or power generation environments.
You will need a strong track record in delivery of high complexity engineering projects through various phases including concept design, production of detailed designs and compiling client specifications. You will need good 3D CAD skills using Inventor, Solidworks, CREO or similar, be able to design from first principles, use hand-calculations, carry out finite element analysis (FEA) and produce manufacture drawings (specifically fabrications and machined components).
Innovative problem solving and solution design skills are needed as is the ability to deliver projects, interact with suppliers and be able to manage multiple external stakeholders and communicate complex subjects to project stakeholders. You should have strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Chartered Status would be an advantage. This demands both leadership skills and hands-on design skills.
