A growing and fast-paced multi-trade contractor is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Administrator to support its commercial operations team within the social housing and reactive maintenance sector. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong commercial awareness and experience working with Schedule of Rates (SoR) contracts, particularly within social housing repairs and maintenance environments. The business delivers a high volume of reactive repairs, maintenance, voids, and refurbishment works across both social housing and private domestic sectors. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring completed works are accurately costed, reviewed, and billed efficiently to maximise commercial performance.

The Role

Reporting into the commercial leadership team, you will be responsible for reviewing completed works, validating costs against agreed Schedule of Rates, and ensuring accurate and profitable billing across a large volume of reactive maintenance jobs. You will also support quotation and invoicing processes for private domestic works including plumbing, heating, kitchens, bathrooms, and general maintenance projects. This role would suit someone who understands how to effectively work with SoRs and identify opportunities to maximise value recovery within agreed contractual frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing completed jobs and processing accurate billing in line with agreed SoRs
  • Analysing labour, material, and operational costs to ensure profitability is maintained
  • Working extensively within a job management system to manage and track works
  • Preparing quotations for private domestic works
  • Raising invoices for completed projects
  • Supporting weekly billing targets and commercial performance objectives
  • Liaising with engineers, supervisors, and management teams regarding job costs and profitability
  • Attending customer meetings where required to discuss commercial matters and cost agreements
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation across all commercial activities

Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience within a commercial, estimating, or QS support role
  • Strong understanding of Schedule of Rates (SoR) within social housing or maintenance contracts
  • Experience working within reactive repairs, maintenance, or refurbishment environments
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced operational environment

Desirable

  • Experience with NHF / M3NHF Schedule of Rates
  • Experience using simPRO or similar job management software
  • Knowledge of plumbing, heating, electrical, or multi-trade maintenance works
  • Social housing sector experience
