We are working with a leading UK food manufacturing business operating within the high-volume poultry processing sector, supplying major retail and foodservice customers nationwide. The site is a large-scale, fast-paced food production environment where engineering reliability, food safety and operational efficiency are critical to daily performance.

This is a great opportunity for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established engineering team supporting a high-volume automated food manufacturing operation. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving production and processing equipment, ensuring maximum uptime in a demanding FMCG environment. The engineering function plays a key role in site performance, with a strong focus on preventative maintenance, fault finding, continuous improvement and operational reliability.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer who enjoys a fast‑paced manufacturing environment with long‑term career progression opportunities within a major food manufacturing group. This role would suit a Maintenance Engineer from a food manufacturing, FMCG or high-speed production background, who enjoys hands‑on problem solving, proactive maintenance and working within a structured engineering team.

Responsibilities of a maintenance engineer:
  • Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across food production and processing equipment
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime
  • Work on conveyors, motors, gearboxes, drives, sensors, pneumatics and automated production systems
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and plant performance
  • Carry out root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures
  • Support planned shutdowns, upgrades and engineering improvement projects
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS systems
  • Ensure all maintenance activity is completed safely and in line with food manufacturing compliance standards
  • Work closely with production teams to maintain site efficiency and operational performance
Skills & qualifications of a maintenance engineer:
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent engineering qualification (Electrical, Mechanical or Multi‑Skilled)
  • Apprentice‑trained Maintenance Engineer preferred
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding skills
  • Experience within FMCG, food manufacturing, poultry processing or fast‑paced production environments
  • Experience working with automated production equipment
  • PLC fault‑finding experience advantageous
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a shift‑based engineering team
