Are you a brick layer with a mechanical acumen? Would you like some variety in a permanent role? Due to growth within the business we are looking someone to maintain the kiln cars & kiln at this brick manufacturing business in Dudley. With a range of machinery, the business manufactures some historical and bespoke items the products an processes are really interesting. Working as part of a small maintenance team of 5 there is a lot of variety onsite to get your teeth stuck into, this business really looks after their team, with the majority of the workforce having in excess of 10 years service, working Monday – Friday 6am – 4pm this role give you a great work life balance too! The role of a Brick layer / Kiln Maintenance engineer; Lay, repair, and maintain refractory bricks in kilns, shuttle kilns, and kiln cars. Inspect kiln linings and identify areas requiring repair or replacement. Mix and apply refractory mortar and insulation materials. Replace damaged refractory blocks and straighten uneven surfaces using appropriate tools. Inspect and repair kiln car decks, steel chassis, rope seals, axles, and wheels. Lubricate moving parts and perform running repairs to maintain operational readiness. Strip and rebuild kiln car refractories as needed. Maintain accurate records of materials used and repairs completed. Skills and Qualifications for this Maintenance engineer role Basic welding and fabrication experience. Experience in bricklaying, masonry, or kiln maintenance. Good communication and organisational skills. High safety awareness and attention to detail. The ability to be on call, this is shared between the 5 people and is very occasional. Forklift licence would be advantageous but not essential Experience reading engineering/fabrication drawings. The benefits of this Brick Kiln engineers role Basic salary of £52,000 – Includes on call allowance Monday – Thursday 6am-4pm Friday 6am – 3pm Optional overtime on Saturdays 7am-11am – paid at time and a half Weekly paid Overtime 1.5x weekdays and Saturdays 2x on a Sunday 25 days holiday + Bank holidays Pension, death in service along with more.
