We are working with a specialist UK chemical manufacturing business operating within the industrial chemicals and process manufacturing sector, supplying products into a range of industrial and commercial applications. The site operates a continuous process environment with a strong focus on safety, compliance, reliability and operational efficiency.
This is a great opportunity for an Electrically Qualified Maintenance Engineer to join the site in Manchester, with the added opportunity to take a lead role in building and developing a small engineering team. You will be joining at a key stage of site development where engineering capability and leadership structure are being strengthened.
The role sits within a process-heavy environment involving chemical mixing and utilities systems, including vacuum systems, steam systems, pumps, pipework and process control equipment. This is a hands-on role with added responsibility for supporting team development and driving engineering standards across the site.
This position would suit an electrically biased Maintenance Engineer from a chemical, process, pharmaceutical or industrial manufacturing background, who is looking to step into a more senior or leadership-focused role while still remaining technically hands-on.
Responsibilities of a Maintenance Engineer:
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across chemical process equipment
- Lead and support maintenance activities across electrical, mechanical and process systems
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults across plant and process equipment
- Maintain and troubleshoot vacuum systems, steam systems, pumps, pipework and mixing vessels
- Support installation, commissioning and modification of new and existing equipment
- Take a lead role in developing and building a small engineering team on site
- Work closely with production and operations teams to maximise uptime and reliability
- Ensure all maintenance activity is completed in line with strict health, safety and permit-to-work systems
- Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives across the site
Skills & Qualifications of a Maintenance Engineer:
- Electrically qualified Engineer (NVQ Level 3 / HNC / HND or equivalent)
- Strong electrical maintenance background within a process or manufacturing environment
- Experience within chemical, pharmaceutical, food or industrial processing environments
- Strong fault-finding skills across electrical systems and process equipment
- Experience with pumps, valves, pipework and rotating equipment
- Understanding of steam and vacuum systems (desirable)
- Ability to read engineering drawings and P&IDs
- Leadership potential or previous experience leading small teams (desirable)
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
