Mainstay Recruitment are looking for an experienced and proactive Building Services Manager to lead the delivery of mechanical engineering services, statutory compliance, and safe systems of work across a complex, highly regulated estate.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring all contractual obligations are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards, while providing excellent support to the client. You will combine office-based management with on-site technical leadership, supervising directly employed engineers and specialist contractors. You’ll ensure both planned and reactive maintenance activities meet performance, safety, and compliance requirements. Acting as the Qualified Supervisor, you will ensure all works comply with F-Gas, Gas Safe, and OFTEC standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead inspection, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems including: HVAC, pressure systems, steam, compressed air, industrial gases, water systems, and LEV equipment
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and internal governance, including JSP 375
- Oversee risk assessments, method statements, permits to work, and contractor controls
- Review new installations, refurbishments, and handover documentation prior to service entry
- Maintain CAFM systems, asset records, technical drawings, and lifecycle planning data
- Collaborate with internal teams, Authorising Engineers, DSTL Estates, DIO representatives, and external auditors
- Mentor engineers and Authorised Persons, supporting training, competence, and professional development
- Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture across all activities
About You
- Proven experience in a mechanical engineering leadership role within regulated environments (e.g. MOD, healthcare, industrial)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services and compliance frameworks including: Pressure Systems Regulations, Gas Safe, OFTEC, F-Gas, JSP 375, SFG20, and CDM
- Recognised mechanical qualification (NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent)
- Previous experience as a Qualified Supervisor or Authorised Person is highly desirable
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain SC Clearance (essential)
- Due to site vetting requirements, applicants must be British Nationals
- Full UK driving licence (company vehicle provided)
- Participation in an on-call rota required
