We are currently seeking an experienced Structural Building Surveyor to support the inspection, safety and compliance of a range of specialist and strategic structures across a defence related estate. This is a varied role offering the opportunity to work on unique and complex structures, including wide span buildings, historic hangars, range facilities and specialist storage infrastructure. The position is hybrid based from Credenhill, with travel required to sites across South Wales and surrounding regions.
The Role
As a Structural Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for conducting detailed inspections and structural assessments across a range of buildings and infrastructure. Structures you will be surveying include:
- Large span steel framed buildings
- Reinforced concrete structures
- Historic and specialist buildings such as WW2 hangars
- Range facilities and associated infrastructure
- Explosive storage facilities
- Lowerable masts and towers where required
You will provide technical advice and structural guidance to operational teams and stakeholders, ensuring buildings remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting structural inspections and building condition surveys
- Producing detailed technical reports with practical and cost-effective remedial recommendations
- Developing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) in line with Safe Systems of Work
- Supporting compliance with JSP375 procedures
- Advising project teams and stakeholders on structural risks and remediation strategies
- Recording works, inspections and reports accurately within the Maximo asset management system
- Working collaboratively with compliance managers and operational teams across multiple sites
- Identifying opportunities to support sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives
Candidate Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have experience as a Structural Building Surveyor.
Essential:
- HND or equivalent qualification in: Building Surveying, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building or related discipline
- Significant experience conducting structural building surveys
- Strong experience working with: Large-span steel structures, Reinforced concrete buildings, Masonry, timber and concrete construction
- Ability to assess building condition, identify defects and recommend appropriate remedial actions
- Experience producing high-quality technical reports
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites
- Eligibility to obtain SC Security Clearance
Desirable:
- RICS membership
- Experience supervising site activities and coordinating resources
- Experience working within highly regulated or compliance-driven environments
