Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

On Call: 1 in 11 rota, including overnight and weekend cover

Mainstay Recruitment are currently supporting a leading Defence Facilities Management provider in their search for a skilled and versatile Multi Skilled Operative to join their maintenance team supporting the Defence estate across RAF Fairford and RAF Welford. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, hands-on maintenance professional looking for a varied role where you will play a key part in maintaining safe, reliable and operational facilities across a unique environment.

You will be responsible for delivering maintenance, repairs, compliance works and minor refurbishment activities across a mixture of domestic and commercial buildings, ensuring facilities remain safe, functional and well maintained. The role is predominantly based at RAF Fairford, with travel required to RAF Welford when necessary. A company van and fuel card will be provided to support travel between sites.

As a Multi-Skilled Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out a variety of maintenance tasks across the Defence estate:

  • Completing reactive maintenance repairs, planned works, compliance activities and minor refurbishments across domestic and commercial buildings
  • Carrying out multi-skilled maintenance activities including plumbing, electrical repairs, plastering, mechanical maintenance and general building repairs
  • Supporting the delivery of safe, compliant and high-quality maintenance services across the estate
  • Diagnosing issues and completing repairs efficiently to minimise disruption
  • Travelling between RAF Fairford and RAF Welford as required, using a company van and fuel card
  • Managing allocated jobs digitally through a tablet/mobile device, ensuring accurate updates and completion records are maintained
  • Supporting occasional storekeeping and yard duties when required
  • Working independently to complete allocated tasks while also supporting the wider maintenance team
  • Participating in an on-call rota, approximately 1 week in 11, including overnight and weekend cover

This role requires someone who is adaptable, reliable and comfortable working across a broad range of maintenance activities within a fast-paced operational environment.

You will have:

  • Previous experience working within maintenance, facilities, construction or housing environments
  • Practical experience completing repairs, maintenance and minor works across buildings
  • Knowledge of general building services including plumbing, electrical repairs, mechanical maintenance and associated works
  • An understanding of Health & Safety requirements, including COSHH and RIDDOR
  • The ability to work independently, manage your own workload and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering quality workmanship
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work professionally with colleagues, customers and contractors
  • Trade qualifications are desirable but not essential. Candidates with strong practical experience and a proven track record of delivering maintenance works are encouraged to apply.

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Eligibility to obtain Security Clearance (SC)
  • Previous experience within a relevant maintenance, facilities, construction or housing environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Flexibility to participate in an on-call rota, including overnight and weekend cover
