Electrical Maintenance Technician

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Our client is a long-established, reputable industrial coatings business specialising in high-volume surface treatment services for sectors including automotive, construction, and general engineering. Their modern facility operates multiple automated finishing lines utilising powder coating, e-coat, and shot blasting processes. They are currently seeking a reliable and practical Electrical Maintenance Technician to join their busy engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and improving plant reliability, working across a wide range of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Working Hours and Salary
- Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 06:00 16:00 (10-hour shifts)
- Core Hours Pay (06:00 14:00): £40,000 per annum
- Extended Shift Pay (14:00 16:00): Paid at time plus one third
- Approximate Total Salary: £50,000 per annum (based on full attendance)
Role Summary
As an Electrical Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving electrical faults across a variety of industrial machinery and process equipment. This includes working with electrical control systems, variable speed drives, motors, burner systems, and associated mechanical components. You will work primarily with Allen Bradley PLC hardware at the input/output level but will not be required to perform PLC programming, which is handled externally. Your role will focus on fault-finding using electrical schematics and drawings, ensuring plant uptime and compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fault diagnosis and repairs on low voltage electrical control systems, utilising wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and terminal layouts.
- Identify and replace faulty components such as contactors, miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), relays, isolators, and I/O cards.
- Work with variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and 3-phase motor control equipment to maintain smooth operation of conveyors, fans, pumps, and other machinery.
- Support the installation and maintenance of electrical-mechanical components including pumps and solenoid valves.
- Assist with the operation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of gas-fired burner systems, including ignition and flame detection systems.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance, including inspections, testing, and replacement of electrical components to minimise downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure all work complies with company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with mechanical and engineering teams to support plant reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in industrial or manufacturing electrical maintenance and fault-finding.
- Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings, wiring schematics and control panel layouts.
- Experience working with PLC systems at the hardware I/O level.
- Knowledge and practical experience of variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and 3-phase electrical systems.
- Good understanding of electrical safety regulations and practices.
Desirable
- Experience in gas burner system maintenance, including ignition and flame monitoring systems.
- Background working within industrial coatings, surface treatment, or similar manufacturing environments.
- Basic mechanical aptitude to support fluid handling systems such as pumps and valves.
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or similar digital maintenance reporting tools.
