Role Overview
You will be responsible for the proactive and reactive maintenance, testing, fault diagnosis, and repair of fire alarm and life-safety systems across a variety of residential and commercial sites. This role ensures systems remain fully operational, compliant with British Standards (e.g., BS 5839-1), and deliver reliable protection. The role is foot-mobile across central London sites and requires hands-on technical expertise, excellent fault-finding skills, and a focus on safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, and test fire detection and alarm systems in line with British Standards.
- Conduct fault-finding, remedial repairs, and system optimisation on panels, devices, interfaces, and auxiliary circuits.
- Carry out statutory inspections, tests, and preventative maintenance visits to ensure compliance.
- Accurately log and report all servicing, inspection results, defects, and recommendations using digital systems.
- Attend reactive call-outs efficiently, providing professional client service.
- Coordinate site visits with the service team to manage priorities and expectations.
- Support emergency lighting checks and system interfaces where required.
- Maintain high standards of health & safety, housekeeping, and risk management on all sites.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Engineer within FM, residential, or commercial environments (minimum 2-4 years).
- FIA or equivalent fire alarm inspection, testing, and maintenance qualification.
- Strong technical knowledge of fire detection and alarm systems, including panels, devices, and interfaces.
- Familiarity with British Standards for fire detection and alarm systems (BS 5839-1).
- Excellent fault-finding, troubleshooting, and remedial repair skills.
- Foot-mobile in central London with excellent time management and planning skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for professional client interactions and reporting.
Desirable:
- Electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, 18th Edition/BS7671).
- Emergency lighting, AOV, First Aid, or Asbestos Awareness certificates.
- Experience with multiple fire alarm manufacturers and digital work management systems.
