Mainstay Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Built Estate Manager to take full ownership of the maintenance and improvement of the built environment across a key defence site for our well-known client. This is a critical leadership role, responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of all maintenance activities, including reactive, planned, and billable works (under £25k).
You’ll lead both internal teams and external supply chain partners to achieve performance targets, drive compliance, deliver value for money, and maintain operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Manage delivery of all reactive and programmed maintenance and minor billable works, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, MoD regulations, and HSE standards.
- Oversee site-specific maintenance schedules and monitor compliance status.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and Heads of Establishment to manage risks and address overdue tasks.
- Support Net Zero initiatives by identifying and driving forward carbon reduction projects.
- Act as the primary point of contact for senior site stakeholders, building strong working relationships.
- Lead, mentor, and support a high‑performing team, ensuring effective onboarding and continued professional development.
- Manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure efficient project delivery.
- Balance commercial decision‑making with operational and stakeholder needs.
- Contribute to contract‑wide risk management and best practices.
- Technical expertise in building, civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
- HNC / HND (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.
- Health & safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH, SMSTS) and training in asbestos and legionella management.
- Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office, CAFM systems, and collaborative tools (e.g. Teams, SharePoint).
- Experience in hard FM services and project management within complex facilities.
- Ability to obtain SC Clearance (Security Clearance).
- Membership of a professional body (e.g. CIOB, IEng).
- NEBOSH qualification.
- Advanced knowledge of CAFM systems.
- 25 days annual leave.
