Mainstay Recruitment are recruiting for an experienced and technically strong Area Manager to lead maintenance and response services across a portfolio of Defence establishments in Cambridgeshire. This is a high-impact leadership role, responsible for delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality FM services while driving performance, efficiency, and value for money.
About the Role
As the operational lead for your area, you will ensure all statutory, regulatory, and MoD-specific requirements are met, with a focus on safety, compliance, and service excellence. You will oversee all maintenance and response activities, ensure work is delivered to JSP 375, statutory legislation, and VIVOs HSE standards, and make sure all tasks are accurately managed within the CAFM system.
You will coordinate supply chain activity, review RAMS, and maintain safe systems of work acting as Method Statement Coordinator when required. You may also take on responsibilities such as Asbestos or Legionella Responsible Person duties.
Your leadership will support the day-to-day management of site teams, Skilled Persons and delivery partners, promoting a proactive safety culture and maintaining strong relationships with DIO, end users, and site stakeholders. You will act as the main point of contact for customers, resolving issues quickly and providing trusted technical advice.
Commercial awareness is key, as you will help manage risk, support Additional Works opportunities, and ensure services are delivered efficiently, economically, and in line with contractual requirements.
What Youβll Bring
- HNC (or higher) in a Building or Mechanical discipline
- Experience in planned/reactive maintenance and small-works delivery
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and technical skills
- Ability to manage compliance in areas such as Working at Height or Confined Spaces (AP/SP experience desirable)
- Willingness to undertake Responsible Person duties (Asbestos/Legionella)
- Participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota
- Professional memberships or asset management qualifications (desirable)
