Maine Medical Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Physician Assistant to join our team as a Psychiatric Hospital Consultant Professional in Portland, Maine. We are a cohesive team representing many disciplines, including Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Pharmacists, Resident Physicians, and Medical Students. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides psychiatric consultation to inpatients at Maine Medical Center. The candidate should be comfortable working with patients with substance use disorders. Responsibilities include face-to-face psychiatric evaluations and medication recommendations to patients on medical/surgical units. Due to the hospital-based setting, the ability to multitask and manage acute clinical scenarios is essential.
Schedule: Full time - 32 hours per week, with 4-8 hour shifts including weekends.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree with advanced knowledge of nursing and/or medical theory and practice
- Current license issued by the State of Maine or eligibility for licensure
- Current BLS certification
- 2+ years of patient care experience in ambulatory mental health or hospital settings (preferred)
- Advanced skills and knowledge in psychiatric diagnosis and psychopharmacology; comfort in treating patients with comorbid medical problems
