All new graduate RNs (less than 1 year RN experience) hired into regular status positions are automatically enrolled in our Residency program in conjunction with their unit-based employment.

Unit Bio: P6 (Pavilion 6) is the 21-bed Inpatient Medical Psychiatry unit at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Portland. It has evolved from a traditional psychiatric unit to one serving an increasingly medically complex population, with a focus on Geriatric Psychiatry. All patients on P6 have both a major psychiatric illness and medical comorbidities requiring inpatient care. We welcome applicants from those new to Psychiatry to experienced professionals.

The Clinical Nurse supports Maine Medical Center's mission, vision, and values by exhibiting behaviours such as excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient and family-centred care, community commitment, and accountability. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of nursing care, following national standards and organisational policies. Care services may be provided inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, or community-based.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in Maine.
  • No RN experience required; inpatient psychiatry experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and processes.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Analytical ability to detect changes in patient conditions and respond appropriately.

All new graduate RNs (less than 6 months of RN experience) hired into regular positions are enrolled in a 12-month Nurse Residency Program. Exceptions may be considered for RNs transferring from other organisations with RN experience or participating in a formal orientation.

Progression: A Clinical Nurse I who meets criteria at 12 months may be promoted to Clinical Nurse II.
