MaineHealth is seeking an Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) & Senior Medical Director for Waldo Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in the picturesque coastal town of Belfast, Maine. The ACMO & Senior Medical Director will carry out responsibilities including regulatory affairs, accreditation, physician resource development via contractual agreements, strategic planning, quality oversight, program development and implementation, and engagement with senior leadership to achieve institutional and program goals. This position reports primarily to MaineHealth's Coastal Region CMO and collaborates closely with MaineHealth's Pen Bay Hospital's ACMO, Coastal Healthcare Alliance Medical Directors, MaineHealth Medical Group Senior Medical Directors, and MaineHealth Coastal Region CMOs. This is an approximately 0.4 FTE administrative role, with the remaining effort dedicated to clinical practice at Waldo Hospital.
Successful candidates will have:
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine (MD, DO) License or license eligible in Maine
- Board Certification
- Appointment to the Waldo Hospital Medical Staff
- At least 5 years of increasing leadership responsibility as a physician
- Experience within a complex healthcare organization
- Understanding of regulatory compliance, healthcare finance, strategic planning, and institutional processes

Primary Job Functions:
- Represent the CMO in various matters as requested
- Develop and implement quality assurance and patient safety plans to ensure high-quality clinical practice and compliance with guidelines
- Ensure effective communication and input from Medical Staff on health system decisions
- Maintain awareness of Medical Staff views and articulate them effectively
- Foster relationships with health system and medical staff constituencies
- Support Medical Staff leaders, department chairs, and committee chairs
- Lead credentialing, privileging, and peer review activities
- Participate in Medical Staff committee meetings to enhance performance and quality
- Promote adherence to Medical Staff code of conduct and build physician relationships
- Collaborate with Medical Staff committees and nursing leadership on risk and utilization management
- Supervise the Community Health and Wellness Department
- Draft transfer agreements to ensure high-quality care
- Assist in quality reviews and clinical care assessments
- Coordinate with senior leaders on shared goals
- Oversee accreditation and regulatory readiness
- Communicate effectively with senior management, departments, and agencies
- Develop strategic partnerships with physician entities
- Participate in financial and budget planning for physician contracts
- Manage sensitive issues with integrity and professionalism
