We have an opportunity for a qualified and experienced Class 2 Registered Building Control Surveyor or Registered Senior Building Control Surveyor to join our small but successful and highly skilled team based in Maidstone Town Centre, the County Town of Kent. Our Building Control Team has a reputation for high standards of service delivery and customer care, ensuring our customer requirements alongside performance targets are met.
We are looking for a surveyor who is committed to delivering a first‑class customer‑oriented service and has the ability to promote our service in a busy competitive marketplace. You will be a key member of our Building Control Team ensuring safe, compliant and sustainable development across a varied workload. The primary role of the post holder is to enforce Building Regulations. You will be responsible for the supervision of an area that covers both domestic and commercial types of work in a geographical area that encompasses the North Downs AONB.
Duties are varied and will include:
- Responsibility to carry out building control duties
- Negotiating and advising developers, applicants and other interested parties
- Keeping up to date with changes in legislation
- Carry out plan appraisals within the prescribed period to ensure compliance with Building Regulations
- Liaise with statutory undertakers – Kent Fire and Rescue, Southern Water Services
- Out of Hours stand‑by for dangerous structures for which an additional allowance is paid plus overtime for any hours worked.
This is a full time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent contract. The role will include hybrid working opportunity.
About You: Essentially, the successful candidate must have relevant Building Surveying experience and hold a minimum registration of 2A (Domestic) RBI with the Building Safety Regulator, working towards 2B (General). A full membership of an approved professional institute such as RICS, CABE, CIOB is desirable though not essential. You will hold a clean valid UK driving licence and have the ability to travel across the borough to conduct site visits/inspections. You will be highly motivated and have excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with different audiences but with the experience to know when to seek expert help. The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and provide advice in accurate spoken English is fundamental to the role.
