Do you feel ready for the next step in your leadership career? This is an exciting opportunity for a School Business Manager to join our existing Senior Leadership Team at Maidenhall Primary School and make a positive impact in raising standards and the quality of experience for our pupils.
Due to the retirement of the current post-holder, the Governors are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly organised School Business Manager to join the Senior Leadership Team of this successful, inclusive and outward-looking primary school. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the operational leadership of the school, with a focus on operational effectiveness and strong stewardship of the school finances, HR processes, premises and full statutory compliance. This is a central role in ensuring the school operates efficiently and sustainably, enabling staff to focus on delivering excellent education for the pupils. The role will also support the school in identifying opportunities for future income generation and the potential development of extended services such as school lettings, wraparound provision or holiday activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial management and school budgeting, initially as part of an extended handover with the current post-holder, and leading on regular input to the school development plan and strategy.
- Maintaining and developing school administration and communication systems; risk management and compliance oversight.
- Line management of operational staff and contractors.
- Supporting the school in identifying opportunities for future income generation and the potential development of extended services such as school lettings, wraparound provision or holiday activities.
- Provide strategic leadership across all non-teaching operation functions of the school.
- Financial planning, budget management and long-term resource strategy.
- Oversee premises management, ensuring a safe, secure and high-quality learning environment.
- Drive digital development, cyber security and IT strategy.
- Lead on compliance, risk management, GDPR/data protection and statutory responsibilities.
- Support the Headteacher in delivering the school's strategic vision.
- Lead and advise senior leaders on HR policy, organizational change and workforce planning.
- Lead capital projects, procurement and value for money initiatives.
- Manage and support the school's administrative and lunchtime teams.
- Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders.
- Oversee HR, payroll and safer recruitment processes.
Qualifications
- Senior level experience in financial management and operational leadership.
- Strong understanding of premises and health & safety management.
- Knowledge of data protection and safer recruitment.
- Experience of managing teams and developing staff.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- High levels of accuracy, meticulous attention to detail whilst maintaining a “bigger picture view” and professional integrity.
- The ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
- Confident use of IT systems, including Microsoft 365.
- Prior experience working within an education environment would be ideal.
- Experience within a school or public sector setting is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong transferable expertise.
