About This Role:

Maiden Erlegh School in Reading is seeking to appoint a motivated and highly effective Teacher of Science, preferably with a specialism in Physics. This role will involve planning and delivering high-quality lessons across the curriculum, promoting strong progress, high standards of achievement and a positive learning environment for all students. The successful candidate will contribute to a culture of high expectations, ensuring students are engaged, challenged and supported to achieve their full potential. In addition to teaching, the role includes form tutor responsibilities and active participation in the wider life of the school, including enrichment and extra-curricular provision. This role is based on the Trust’s Classroom Teacher expectations and adapted for Science delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver highly effective lessons in line with Trust and school expectations
  • Motivate and inspire students to engage positively and achieve high standards
  • Use assessment effectively to monitor progress and inform teaching
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and create a safe, inclusive learning environment
  • Act as a form tutor, supporting students’ personal development and wellbeing
  • Contribute to curriculum development and enrichment, including fixtures, clubs and events
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to the wider school community
  • Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and Trust policies at all times

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds QTS and a relevant degree
  • Has strong subject knowledge in Science, ideally with a specialism in Physics
  • Is an effective classroom practitioner with high expectations for all students
  • Can deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that promote participation and achievement
  • Demonstrates strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Is committed to inclusion, student wellbeing and removing barriers to learning
  • Is willing to contribute to extra-curricular activities and the wider life of the school
