We are seeking a Cover Supervisor to join Maiden Erlegh School in Reading. This role provides classroom supervision during teacher absence, ensuring continuity of learning through the delivery of work set by teaching colleagues. You will maintain a structured and purposeful learning environment so that students remain engaged, behaviour expectations are upheld and learning continues consistently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise classes during teacher absence, ensuring students complete the work set and remain engaged in learning
  • Communicate clear instructions and provide appropriate resources to support students’ understanding of tasks
  • Maintain a calm, orderly and purposeful classroom environment in line with school behaviour systems
  • Record and report on lesson activity, student engagement and behaviour to support continuity of teaching and learning
  • Collect and return completed work to the appropriate teacher or department
  • Support the safe and effective operation of the school through duties and operational support across the school day
  • Build positive relationships with students and model high expectations of behaviour and conduct
  • Support inclusion and pastoral teams where required
  • Undertake exam invigilation and other supervisory responsibilities, including break and lunchtime duties

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds an NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent
  • Demonstrates understanding of classroom‑based learning and how to support student engagement
  • Communicates clearly and builds positive relationships with young people
  • Has strong organisational and time management skills
  • Maintains effective behaviour management and appropriate authority in a classroom setting
  • Shows professionalism, confidentiality and a positive, flexible approach to work
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality and promoting the welfare of children and young people
