About This Role
The Cover Supervisor will provide effective classroom supervision in the absence of the regular class teacher. Using pre‑prepared resources and instructions, the postholder will ensure students remain safe, engaged and focused on learning, maintaining high standards of behaviour and professionalism at all times. Key aspects of the role include supervising whole classes, managing behaviour in line with school policies, registering attendance, supporting learning activities, and contributing to the wider life of the school through duties and administrative support where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise classes during teacher absence, ensuring a calm and purposeful learning environment.
- Register attendance and manage orderly entry and exit from classrooms.
- Communicate lesson instructions clearly and provide appropriate resources to students.
- Manage behaviour in line with school systems and expectations.
- Collect and return student work and complete routine reporting as required.
- Support the administration team and departments during unallocated periods.
- Undertake lunchtime, break‑time and exam invigilation duties as required.
- Comply fully with safeguarding, health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
Ideal Candidate
- Holds an NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent.
- Has experience of working in a school or with young people (desirable).
- Is confident in exercising authority and managing behaviour positively.
- Demonstrates strong communication, organisation and time management skills.
- Can work independently, using initiative, while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Has a positive, professional and resilient approach, with a clear commitment to student wellbeing and safeguarding.
