About this Role
As Senior Invigilator at Maiden Erlegh School in Reading, you will lead examination room operations so that internal and public examinations run smoothly and efficiently, enabling students to demonstrate their learning. You will coordinate up to eight invigilators, manage multiple examinations within the same session and mentor new invigilators.
Working with the examinations team, you will maintain accurate timing, provide a confident and reassuring presence for candidates and support students who require a scribe, as directed by the Examinations Officer. Hours of work are variable.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure students can demonstrate their learning by supporting the smooth and efficient conduct of internal and public examinations and carrying out invigilator responsibilities.
- Maintain a confident and reassuring examination environment for candidates, including acting as a scribe for students with special needs when directed by the Examinations Officer.
- Lead examination room operations throughout each session, coordinating up to eight invigilators and managing large numbers of candidates taking different examinations in the same room.
- Ensure examination papers and materials are distributed accurately and maintain precise timekeeping for every examination within the session.
- Support consistent invigilation practice by mentoring new invigilators assigned to the same room and contributing to their training.
- Work collaboratively with the examinations team, provide additional support as required and undertake other duties appropriate to the post, including occasional support for other Trust schools.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have at least two years' experience as an invigilator, including experience as a sole invigilator and of leading a small examination room. You will understand the key issues involved in conducting examinations and be able to lead sessions in examination rooms of any size.
Strong organisational and time management skills will enable you to coordinate invigilators, manage simultaneous examinations and follow detailed instructions accurately. You will communicate effectively in English through reading, writing and speaking, provide reassurance to candidates and support new invigilators through mentoring and training.
You will be punctual, reliable, adaptable and able to work flexibly as part of a close-knit team. The role requires the ability to invigilate for several hours and to stand and move around the examination room throughout a session. Experience of working within education or a school is advantageous but not essential.
You must be suitable to work with children and committed to safeguarding, equality and promoting the welfare of children and young people. You will maintain awareness of local safeguarding policies and procedures and report concerns or information as required.
