MAHLE Powertrain is a global engineering consultancy that specialises in the design, development, control, calibration and integration both of advanced internal combustion engines and of electrified powertrain systems. Our dual technological strategy is the further optimisation of internal combustion engines and, at the same time, leading the development of electro-mobility.

We are seeking exceptional Graduate Engineers in electrical / electronic, mechatronics, control, mechanical and automotive engineering disciplines to join our Graduate Development Programme - which is key to our internal talent development strategy - and contribute to the further growth of our technical capabilities. Our Programme’s mission is to empower you to grow and take ownership for your continuous professional development. We enable you to become an agile, resilient, and highly skilled Engineer, who can deliver existing and future projects.
What professional development we will provide for you?
- 1 Year Tailored Graduate Development Programme, commencing in September 2026
- Opportunity to complete a 2-month rotation through each of the 6 main departments to aid your progression into a specific electric propulsion engineering pathway at the end of your programme
- An onboarding period at the start of the programme to learn about our systems, processes and customers
- Work in a collaborative, customer facing environment on live customer projects
- Collaborative group projects, extensive interpersonal and business skills development, diverse learning experiences underpinned by applied neuroscience for learning
- Mentoring and coaching from our experienced engineers and leaders, individual development planning
- Ongoing progression reviews to support your development
- Continuous professional training adhering to appropriate professional body to support the achievement of relevant Chartered status
- Opportunity to become a STEM Ambassador and get involved in extracurricular activities
- Join a host department at the end of the development programme in one of the following areas:
Design – Learn how to design anything from a cooling system to a complex e-Machine from experienced engineers using state of the art hardware and 3D CAD packages. Laying out initial concepts through to detailed designs for production.
Analysis - Use state of the art software to complete virtual evaluations of powertrain, system or component performance. You will support the design team to optimise designs to meet thermodynamic or structural performance, providing insight before the designs leave the virtual world and become reality.
Development and validation – Derive specifications for complete powertrains or individual systems and components. Complete complex test programmes on in-house designed and customer products, evaluating system performance and suggesting improvements to meet product attribute targets.
Calibration and Controls – Learn how to develop and test world class vehicle calibrations to, not only meet regulatory requirements but also enhance the character and driving experience of ICE, Hybrid and BEV vehicles. You will also be able to immerse yourself in the world of programming, working with our agile teams to create new powertrain controls software based on our in-house flexible platform.
Research and Advanced Engineering – Do you want to work on cutting edge technology in an environment that fosters creativity and ingenuity? As part of the research and advanced engineering team you will work with like-minded engineers to support the delivery of internal and external customer projects helping develop the next generation of propulsion systems.
Build and test – Gain experience and look behind the scenes of our multi-million pound test facility in Northampton that enables our engineers to test vehicles and powertrains at extremes of performance, temperature, and altitude.

- By Sept 2026 you will have obtained a min. 2:1 Engineering Degree (Electrical, Electronic, Systems, Control, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Automotive or equivalent)
