The Head of Consciousness-based Education is a pivotal School role, with responsibility for safeguarding and advancing the unique ethos of the school; ensuring that the principles of Consciousness-based Education are seamlessly integrated into the daily life, curriculum, and culture of the school community. This role acts as the guardian of "Purity of Knowledge," ensuring that Maharishi’s knowledge is applied accurately and effectively to support the holistic development of pupils and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Ethos Safeguarding
    • Oversee the implementation of all Consciousness-based Education elements across the school.
    • Scrutinise the practice and application of CbE to ensure it remains aligned with the school’s founding principles and the purity of the knowledge.
    • Work closely with the Board of Members and the Senior Leadership Team to maintain the school’s ethos and provide regular CbE progress reports to the Governing Body.
  • Instructional Oversight
    • Oversee the instruction of Transcendental Meditation (TM) for pupils, staff, and parents, coordinating with approved teachers through the local TM Centre.
    • Oversee and monitor the regular checking of TM and Word of Wisdom (WoW) for both pupils and staff to ensure consistency and efficacy of technique.
    • Arrange and lead CbE-focused training for staff, including INSET days and staff meetings.
  • Curriculum & Integration
    • Analyse Schemes of Work across all departments to identify and implement opportunities for the integration of CbE.
    • Monitor the integration of the Consciousness-based Interdisciplinary Studies (CbIDS) within classrooms and ensure all teaching materials are appropriate and high-quality.
    • Have oversight of the PSHE/RSHE curriculum to ensure it is harmoniously integrated into Consciousness-based Living Skills (CbLS).
  • Resource Management & Outreach
    • Ensure the proper use of all Maharishi Foundation copyrighted materials and return thereof by staff members who used them.
    • Curate and manage printed materials and resources for use within the school to ensure they meet CbE standards.
    • Act as the primary ambassador for the school’s ethos, delivering the introductory CbE presentation at Open Days and school events.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Deep understanding of, and commitment to, the school’s ethos and the concept of "Purity of Knowledge."
  • Commitment to undertake CbE training, if necessary.
  • A dedicated and regular practitioner of Transcendental Meditation.
  • Ability to analyse Schemes of Work to find creative links between consciousness and core subjects, and support staff in their application of these links in lessons.
  • Ability to support staff in their developing understanding of CbE and its integration into school life and the wider curriculum.

Desirable Criteria

  • Practitioner of the TM Sidhi technique.
  • Certified teacher of Transcendental Meditation.
  • Prior teaching experience in a UK classroom.

  • An engaging and uplifting communicator.
