The Opportunity
Our client is a fast-scaling, venture-backed AI company operating in the institutional finance space, building next‑generation “agentic” AI systems that automate complex, knowledge‑heavy workflows. They’re now looking for their first dedicated finance hire — someone who wants to take full ownership of the finance function and grow into a Head of Finance / CFO‑track role as the business scales. This is a true 0 to 1 build role with high visibility across leadership, investors, and board.
What you’ll be doing:
- Build the finance function from scratch — systems, processes, and reporting
- Own monthly close and financial operations across multiple entities (UK, US, international)
- Implement scalable tooling (e.g. Xero, NetSuite) and move away from manual processes
- Deliver board and investor reporting, including SaaS metrics (ARR, NRR, etc.)
- Support fundraising and financial planning — budgeting, forecasting, runway management
- Act as a strategic partner to leadership on growth, spend, and scaling decisions
What they’re looking for:
- 7–12 years in finance / accounting within high‑growth SaaS or tech environments
- Experience building finance systems in early‑stage startups (Seed to Series B)
- Strong understanding of SaaS metrics and commercial drivers
- Experience managing multi‑entity, international finance operations
- Familiarity with VC‑backed environments and fundraising processes
- Hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and comfortable operating with limited structure
- First finance hire — own the function and shape it end‑to‑end
- Clear path to Head of Finance / CFO
- High‑impact role working closely with founders and investors
- Fast‑growing AI business with strong traction in institutional finance
- Small, high‑calibre team building at pace
