We are looking for a proactive and safety‑focused Multi‑Skilled Technician to join our Engineering team at our Maldon site. This is a hands‑on role responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving manufacturing and facility equipment to national standards.
You will play a key part in planned and reactive maintenance, equipment reliability, facilities upkeep and continuous improvement, using a CMMS system to support a best‑in‑class maintenance operation. You will also be expected to fully embrace and promote Magnera’s values, particularly around safety, training and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Always work safely and promote a strong safety culture across the manufacturing, warehouse and support areas
- Carry out electrical, mechanical and pneumatic fault diagnosis and repairs
- Ensure compliance with IEEE standards, BS7671 Wiring Regulations and Electricity at Work Regulations
- Perform planned preventative maintenance and contribute to equipment reliability improvements
- Maintain plant facilities and ancillary systems to ensure optimal operation
- Use the CMMS system to manage maintenance tasks, records, faults and projects
- Respond efficiently to breakdowns and support production shift supervisors
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement, cost control and waste reduction initiatives
- Support engineering and maintenance projects as required
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation and records
- Operate workshop machinery such as lathes and milling machines (or show willingness to learn)
- Be flexible with working hours, including overtime when required
Essential:
- Completed a recognised maintenance engineering apprenticeship (Mechanical/Electrical or Electrical/Mechanical)
- At least 5 years’ experience in electrical and/or mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, drives and controls
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings
- Understanding of relevant engineering regulations
- Good basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, CMMS)
- Strong teamworking, communication and problem‑solving skills
- A positive, proactive attitude with a strong commitment to safety
Desirable:
- HNC/ONC or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- 18th Edition qualification
- Experience with AC/DC drives
- Basic PLC fault‑finding knowledge (Siemens)
- Experience with project work
- Experience using lathes and milling machines to manufacture tooling and parts
- Must be mobile and able to work a shift pattern
- Willing to work occasional overtime
- Occasional travel may be required, mainly for training
