Job Responsibilities:
- Referencing from CAD and/or 2D drawings, the Manufacturing Toolmaker will be responsible for all mechanical manufacturing aspects of jigs, fixtures, and other fabrications for assembly cells.
- Duties will also include preparation/assembly and fitting of new and existing casting tools.
- The Manufacturing Toolmaker must ensure compliance with all relevant quality standards and legal regulations, while consistently achieving specifications for tolerances, project milestones and delivery expectations.
- The role involves but is not limited to:
- Completing scheduled mechanical build up of assembly fixtures referenced from CAD and/or 2D drawings and BOMs (Bills Of Material).
- Taking ownership of tooling corrective repairs to ensure successful completion on time.
- Verifying engineering specifications and quality standards and adherence using CAD and/or 2D drawings and verification from CMM data where applicable.
- Supporting the MAA business unit in all aspects of jig, fixture, other fabrications and assembly cell build processes.
- Disassembly of casting dies, preparation of frames including assembly and fitting of new casting inserts and steels.
- Supporting both press and die casting tooling spotting, with an ability to read blue spot facilitate changes to die surfaces.
- Improving tooling performance, reliability and quality.
- Ensuring adherence to the BOM for assembly fixture builds.
- Ensure shift and job handovers are clear and concise in order to minimise disruption.
- Training colleagues as required in the fixture build and tooling processes.
- To adhere to all Health & Safety responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Any other duties as reasonably requested.
Essential:
- City and Guilds toolmaker qualification and previous post apprenticeship.
- Experience in an automotive tooling environment.
- Experience of assembling mechanical and pneumatic components.
- Experience of working with hydraulic or power presses in production or try out disciplines.
- Ability to suitably identify and prepare materials.
- Welding of steel fabrications (Tig, Mig or Arc).
- Non CNC machining skills.
- Understanding of quality procedures and first off and last off verifications.
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and interrogate CAD data understanding precision measurement.
- CI understanding to support and develop business CI initiatives.
Desirable:
- Stamping tools, casting tools, injection moulding tools experience is desirable.
- Experience of working on hydraulic or power presses of at least 300 tons or more.
- Experience in mechanical integration of robotic assembly cells.
- Overhead crane experience (training will be given).
- Forklift truck experience (training will be given).
