Job Responsibilities: The Commodity Buyer will be responsible and accountable for the monitoring and management of the supplier base's performance, as defined by the category strategy for both Direct and Indirect commodities. Objectives for this role will include:

  • Monitoring and reporting the performance of the suppliers against the Group and Plant defined strategies.
  • Training of the supply base in key processes and policies.
  • Supporting the delivery of Group and Plant strategies through the rigorous post-award management of contract and supplier performance.
  • Onboarding new suppliers.
  • RFQ generation, management, analytics culminating in submission of a Purchasing Recommendation for approval.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Monitors all Procurement strategies performances to ensure that the maximised value is achieved for the business.
  • Builds in-depth knowledge of the supply market within their category sector.
  • Monitors and supports the execution of all strategies, including supporting negotiation with suppliers, evaluating ongoing contract and supplier performance and measuring contract compliance.
  • Support and implementation of sourcing of group-wide deals for the overall category strategy, including supporting any other category sourcing strategies.
  • Monitor and report the results from strategies to incentivise and engage strategic suppliers and then measure and incentivise their performance.
  • Monitor supplier and customer governance, fed by relevant data and attended by empowered representatives of all organisations.
  • Monitor and support the implementation, performance and compliance to group-wide deals in support of the category strategy.
  • Be a high performing category team member who is aligned to category strategy and value delivery.
  • Deliver and exceed targets set through clear objectives that link to the overall business and functional strategy.

Must adhere to responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 including; co-operation with the line supervision and managers, taking reasonable care of oneself and others, not tampering with any systems which exist for the purpose of effective risk control and participation in our management system including adherence to "safe systems of work" and instructions and reporting any issues/abnormalities/hazards which are, or may become a danger to our teams. Any other duties as reasonably requested by the employer.

Key Experiences and Qualifications:

  • Automotive sector experience with a Purchasing and Programme Management/Project bias.
  • Experience in press tooling and assembly purchases.
  • Experience with working with suppliers in China.
  • Understanding of QAF's and data harvesting/analysis.
  • MCIP's qualified or working towards MCIP's.
  • Any engineering qualifications.

Desirable Skills and Experience Required:

  • Prolific in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Worked in an OEM or large tier 1 supplier previously.
  • Commercially astute.
